Terms of Service
DNA Connect — Post-Quantum Encrypted Messenger
Effective Date: April 5, 2026 · Last Updated: April 5, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using DNA Connect (the “App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.
DNA Connect is a decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging application. There is no central service provider to contact for account recovery, content moderation, or data access. You are fully responsible for safeguarding your recovery phrase and any content you publish to the network.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use DNA Connect. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have parental or legal guardian consent. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.
You must comply with all applicable laws in your country or region. The App is not available for use where prohibited by local law.
3. Your Account & Recovery Phrase
DNA Connect does not maintain user accounts on any server. Your identity is a locally-generated, post-quantum cryptographic key pair derived from a 24-word BIP39 recovery phrase.
You are solely responsible for your recovery phrase. It is the only way to restore access to your identity, messages, contacts and wallets if you lose your device. Never share it with anyone. We cannot recover it for you — no support team, helpdesk, or centralized service has access to it.
- Loss of the recovery phrase means permanent loss of access to your identity and any cryptocurrency balances associated with it.
- Disclosure of the recovery phrase to a third party grants them complete access to your identity, messages, and wallets.
- Store your recovery phrase offline, on paper or hardware, in multiple secure locations.
4. License to Use
DNA Connect is provided under an open-source license (see the GitHub repository for the exact license terms). You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms.
You may not modify the App for distribution, reverse-engineer the binary to circumvent security controls, or use the App to violate these Terms or applicable law.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to use DNA Connect to:
- Send unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, obscene, or otherwise objectionable content.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely represent your affiliation with any person or entity.
- Distribute malware, viruses, ransomware, or any malicious code.
- Engage in phishing, scamming, or fraudulent activity targeting other users.
- Publish, transmit, or solicit child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content involving exploitation of minors.
- Violate any intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademark, or trade secrets.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity, performance, or security of the Nodus decentralized network.
- Attempt unauthorized access to other users' identities, messages, or wallets.
- Use the App for money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, or any other illegal financial activity.
Because DNA Connect is decentralized, there is no centralized enforcement body. Violations may be reported to the project team (via the contact information below) but enforcement ultimately depends on operators of the Nodus network and local law enforcement in the violator's jurisdiction.
6. User-Generated Content
You retain full ownership of any content you publish through the App, including direct messages, group messages, wall posts, comments, profile information, and media attachments.
By publishing content to the decentralized network, you grant the network operators a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, replicate, and transmit that content for the purpose of delivering it to its intended recipients. This license ends when the content expires according to its network TTL (time-to-live) or when you remove it.
You are solely responsible for the content you publish. Content published publicly (wall posts, public profile) may be replicated and cached across many nodes of the Nodus network and cannot be guaranteed to be fully deleted.
7. Cryptocurrency Wallet
DNA Connect includes a multi-chain cryptocurrency wallet feature (Cellframe, Ethereum, Solana, TRON, BSC). You acknowledge and agree that:
- Non-custodial: Private keys are derived from your recovery phrase and stored locally on your device. We never have access to your private keys or funds.
- No reversibility: Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. Sending funds to an incorrect address, or entering an incorrect amount, may result in permanent loss.
- Volatility: Cryptocurrency values fluctuate. We do not guarantee any particular value or price.
- Tax responsibility: You are solely responsible for determining and paying any applicable taxes on your cryptocurrency transactions.
- Regulatory compliance: Cryptocurrency regulations vary by jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to comply with all laws applicable to you.
- No financial advice: The App does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Price information displayed is for reference only.
- Network fees: Blockchain transactions incur network fees (gas) that you pay to miners/validators. These fees are not retained by us.
8. Decentralized Network Disclaimer
DNA Connect uses the Nodus decentralized peer-to-peer network for message delivery, profile discovery, and content storage. You acknowledge that:
- The network is operated by independent node operators, not by a single entity.
- Message delivery is best-effort and not guaranteed. Messages may be delayed or lost due to network conditions, node outages, or TTL expiration.
- Content published to the network may persist across multiple nodes and may be accessible for as long as nodes choose to store it.
- The network has no central authority to moderate content, enforce policies, or reverse actions.
- Availability of the network depends on voluntary node operators and cannot be guaranteed.
9. Third-Party Services
The App connects to third-party blockchain RPC endpoints (Cellframe, Ethereum, Solana, TRON, BSC) and a cryptocurrency price API (BitcoinTry) for wallet functionality. These services are operated by independent providers and governed by their own terms and policies.
We do not control, warrant, or assume responsibility for third-party services. Availability, accuracy, and security of third-party data are not guaranteed.
10. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability
DNA Connect is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the DNA Protocol team, its contributors, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or cryptocurrency, arising out of or related to your use of the App, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on liability. In such jurisdictions, liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the DNA Protocol team, its contributors, and affiliates from any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any applicable law, or your violation of any rights of another party.
12. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Since there is no server-side account, there is no deletion process required on our end. Your public profile data on the network will expire according to its TTL.
We reserve the right to discontinue development of the App, the Nodus network infrastructure, or related services at any time, for any reason. Because the network is decentralized, discontinuation by the core team does not necessarily mean discontinuation of the network itself.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Material changes may be announced via in-app notifications or on the project website. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the DNA Protocol team is based, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation; if negotiation fails, through binding arbitration or the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
Your use of the App may also be subject to local laws where you reside, including but not limited to data protection, telecommunications, and cryptocurrency regulations. You are responsible for compliance with such laws.
